If I Were the Devil

I would have you question whether God has actually intentionally communicated with you at all. How can you be sure that what you are reading in that book is actually what He said? What if He never said anything at all? What if He said something, but not what you are reading? Did you misread? Perhaps someone misheard… Just think about it.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’ (Genesis 3:1–2, ESV)?”

— -

The Satan hasn’t changed a bit. This has been his game plan since the beginning. What are the first words he utters in all of the biblical record?

‘Did God actually say…’

The devil has aimed to cast doubt and uncertainty toward what God has clearly said since his first entrance into recorded history. It makes sense that someone whose word means nothing might spend considerable time attempting to compromise the trusted word of another.

The devil has been deceptive since the beginning, and tragically he has enjoyed a number of victories in swaying people toward his argument. Don’t buy into it. If you can’t trust his word and he knows it, the next logical step for him to take is to get you to question the trusted word of God.

Finally consider this. Who do you have more reason to believe, the person who has repeatedly expressed concern for you or the person who has not? Who should you trust, the person who is honest or the person who is dishonest? God has shown unique interest and concern for His creation, whereas the Satan has shown only enough interest to interfere in the work of God. This is not a coincidence!
